Transparency & Accountability

We tell the truth about where we are.

Trust is built in plain language. Here is exactly how Maiya's Heart Project is organized today, what your contributions support, and the path we are on.

Current organizational structure

An LLC, by design, for now.

Maiya's Heart Project currently operates as a Limited Liability Company (LLC). This structure lets a movement Sharnell leads build quickly, partner formally, and steward funds responsibly during the formative years — without overstating what we are.

We are actively pursuing formal nonprofit (501(c)(3)) recognition as part of our 2027 horizon. Until that is finalized, contributions to Maiya's Heart Project are not tax-deductible as charitable gifts. We will say that clearly on every donation touchpoint until the day it changes.

How contributions are used

Mission-building, not overhead theater.

  • — Storytelling: video, photography, interviews, and the families willing to share.
  • — Awareness campaigns tied to American Heart Month, Donate Life Month, Minority Donor Awareness, CHD Awareness Month, and our year-end Season of Hope Giving Campaign.
  • — Signature gatherings: Hope in Motion 5K, Maiya's Legacy Celebration & School Supply Giveaway, Candlelight Walk for Hope & Healing, and the Hearts of Hope Gala.
  • — The operating costs of running the organization: hosting, software, design, legal, and the people doing the work.
  • — Building the infrastructure that future family navigation, practical family support, grief and bereavement care, and the Maiya Cunningham Healthcare Scholarship will run on.

Our commitment

What you can expect from us.

  • — Honest staging. Future programs will be labeled as future. We will never present a planned initiative as an active one.
  • — Annual reflection. Beginning in 2027, we will publish an annual letter covering funds raised, how they were used, and what we built.
  • — Plain-language donation policy. Every gift page tells you the tax status, the platform fee (zero — we use Zeffy), and where your gift is going.
  • — Direct accessibility. Sharnell signs the emails. Sharnell answers questions about how the project is run.
